Art and Design Curriculum Statement

Art and Design Curriculum Overview

Art and Design Progression Of Skills

Through the Art and Design curriculum pupils will develop a range of creative and evaluative skills. At St. Joseph’s we aim to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. Children are taught a variety of art forms, for example drawing, painting, printing and sculpture. Within these art forms the children will explore and experiment with different colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space. They will also discuss and comment on these effects. As much as we can, we try to follow the works from a wide range of artists and will learn from and evaluate their work. The complexity of art progresses through the year and as the children progress through school. As a school we have created a progression of skills which ensures the learning that takes place each year is revisited, embedded and allows progression and challenge for all children.
